Emily Thing

Emily studied fine art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where she earned a BFA. Passionate about painting, she has exhibited her work throughout her native Hudson Valley Region for the last 15 years. Participating in the Marlboro, Massachusetts Paradise City Arts Festival from 2003-2006, she gained a following for her work, and started taking commissions.

Emily has developed a unique visual language, through the materials she works with on wood panel and canvas. Combining collage with acrylics and spray paint, she layers paint and paper - adding layers and then subtracting with sandpaper, to create intimate, ethereal, dream-like paintings - evoking sense memory - open to interpretation by the viewer. Sometimes the work is inspired by a specific place, and sometimes it's a symbolic representation of a feeling or time in the artist's life.
