Butterbur - European hornet Print

I was born in Genoa in 1963. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, I moved to Rome and started working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, work I still do, mainly in the publishing sector. I specialise in children's book illustrations. Always looking for new art forms, in 2011 I started painting. Over the years, I became more and more passionate about this art and so, in 2017, I realized my first solo exhibition “Traits of Women” exposing paintings of only female figures, to show that even art can offer the opportunity to reflect on the mistreatment and violence of all kinds that women suffer daily. I believe it is necessary to reaffirm the rights and dignity they deserve, by whatever means, even only with paintings that try to exalt their beauty, from sensuality to maternal sweetness. Some time after, I was invited to exhibit the same paintings at two events organized to combat violence against women. 
I had achieved my goal, even if it was only a drop in the ocean. The road, unfortunately, is still long... feminicides, abuse and stalking are becoming more frequent and more serious! Also in 2017 my painting 'ASIA' (melancholy portrait of a young oriental woman), was selected to be shown on the screen of the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London, in a project showing a selection of works by artists from all over the world. Dopo la laurea all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, mi sono trasferito a Roma e ho iniziato a lavorare come illustratore e grafico freelance, lavoro che svolgo tuttora, principalmente nel settore editoriale. Sono specializzato in illustrazioni di libri per bambini. Sempre alla ricerca di nuove forme d'arte, nel 2011 mi sono avvicinato alla pittura ad olio e, nel corso degli anni, mi sono appassionato sempre di più. Nel 2017 ho tenuto la mia prima mostra personale “Tratti di Donne” esponendo dipinti di sole figure femminili, per dimostrare che anche l'arte può offrire l'opportunità di riflettere sui maltrattamenti e le violenze di ogni genere che le donne subiscono quotidianamente. Credo sia necessario riaffermare i diritti e la dignità che spettano loro, con qualsiasi mezzo, anche solo con dipinti che cercano di esaltarne la bellezza, spaziando dalla dolcezza materna alla sensualità.
