Peter Watkins

Inspired by the series of photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken by Eve Arnold, I try to create a feeling of intimacy between the viewer and the sitter. The majority of my photographs explore psychology and display the true nature of the subject.

I adopt a poetic, simplistic approach to my photographs to allow the viewer to interpret the meaning behind the aesthetics. In other words, my work focuses at displaying reality through a creative fantasy. In many of my projects I attempt to go beyond appearances, and explore the relationship between photographer, subject and viewer.

I am inspired by Chuck Jones with his use of emotion through expressions, shapes and lines, positive and negative space, and colour. Like him, I want to bring the viewer to an emotional conclusion in relation to the mood, tonality and the character of the photograph.
