Inspired by a trip to Berlin, Gilded Rupture explores the moment of fracture -where tension breaks and something raw is exposed. Deborah Phillips is a UK-based contemporary artist whose work explores themes of healing, transformation, and resilience through richly layered mixed media. Originally trained in fashion design in Norfolk, England, Deborah spent many years creating bespoke bridal gowns before stepping away from the industry to raise her children. Her return to art marked a profound shift, from designing for others to creating deeply personal, expressive works rooted in lived experience. Largely self-taught as a painter, Deborah’s practice embraces instinct, texture, and material exploration. Working across painting, textiles, and sculptural forms, she combines acrylics, fibres, found objects, and layered text to create tactile, emotionally charged pieces that invite both reflection and connection. A pivotal moment in her artistic journey came with her first painting, Polar Bear in the Snow, a blank canvas that became a symbol of courage, creative freedom, and personal rediscovery. Today, Deborah creates from her studio in Norfolk, where her evolving body of work continues to explore what it means to be broken, beautiful, and continually becoming.
