José Castillo (1984, San Jose), a young self-taught artist, began painting at an early age. José has starred in twenty exhibitions inside and outside his native country.
His works breathe an atmosphere that disturbs the viewer. He develops a composition in which his refined technique, an abstraction of melts that subtly distills the essential elements of a figurative image, deforms and modifies his subjects, looking later for the thrill of the psychic. Thus, there is a mix of dreams and reality where nightmares and archetypes of the unconscious are released.
This intense and vibrating exhibition shows the dance of monsters and ghosts promoted by chaos, violence and anarchy. If anything characterizes the works of José Castillo, it is modifying perception posing under a strong conceptual coherence. Themes of freedom, seduction and fantasy engulf his paintings, drawings and sculptures. He creates compositions that exist but is not seen, leaving the viewer to find the essence of the work within.
