Rowena Perkins

Rowena Perkins has exhibited her paintings in art galleries and public spaces on Cape Cod, MA, in New England Region, New York, Key West, FL, and California. Her work is in private and corporate collections in the U.S. and private collections in England. She has shown her work since 1988; in 1990 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA. She grew up surrounded by a family of artists; art and the creative spirit have been the well spring and core of her being her entire life.

Artist Statement:

I am intrigued by color and light:
How the color of light effects our choices as humans;
The relationship and interactions between humanity and nature;
The life cycle and beauty of the natural world, and how everything is connected.

These are some of my paintings subjects and themes:
Flowers and landscapes; boats/vessels; still lifes; birds/animals/insects; architecture/angles/shapes.
With acrylic paint on panels or paper, I strive to describe a new and exciting world.

My style is representational-expressive-abstract.
I extract from the perfection of nature that I see, to create a pictorial record of the organic and colorful rhythm of daily life.
It is my way of depicting non-objective symbolism within the objective reality on the surface in which I am most interested.
It is the inner, soulful essence within the obvious exterior that I seek.

The currents of objective reality flow through my subjective consciousness to distill an abstract visual poetry.
It is my goal to make pictures that are always new and fresh, as well as those which will last far into the future.
