Born in a former Czechoslovakia, Kiki Spring (née Kristina Kucerova) was raised in a traditional family in a post-communist country, where societal expectations for women have centred around appearance, marriage and motherhood rather than pursuing ambitious careers and independence. Following her studies of a major in the Slovak language, literature, and fine arts at Comenius University in Bratislava, her aspirations were to utilize her teaching degree in either the educational or corporate sectors, with plans to settle in Slovakia. However, her trajectory shifted in 2011 when she initially moved to the United States for a few months to improve her English. She ended up staying far longer and, after two years, relocated to Switzerland, where she continues to reside. Living as a single young woman, her years abroad were marked by existential and financial challenges. She navigated various jobs and was not active as an artist for nearly a decade. Despite these hardships, this period proved transformative reshaping her conservative Eastern European background and family values. In her late thirties, Kiki returned to art — painting graceful female portraits and exploring upcycled materials. As her life shifted, so did her style. She gravitated toward the expressive world of vintage poster art, inspired by hand-painted early 20th-century graphics and warm, earthy abstract tones. Today, her work blends retro aesthetics with a contemporary, minimalist edge, merging femininity and nostalgia. Her practice moves between two connected worlds: the bold clarity of vintage poster art and the emotional freedom of abstract expression. Though visually different, both share her signature palette of gold-washed autumn hues and natural, earthy warmth. One highlights women’s presence; the other uncovers their inner landscape — together forming a unified story of feminine strength, independence, and modern identity. Kiki Spring believes in the power of creativity as a form of healing. Her mission is to create art that brings warmth, joy, and a touch of vintage magic to the process of becoming whole again. Because art, like life, is not about starting over — it’s about returning to what feels true.
