Samuell Karim is a 34-year-old Danish/Palestinian emerging artist who maintains a style that neither adheres to nor dismisses traditional genres, yet remains unmistakably his own. His unique expression stems from an absence of direct artistic influence, ensuring his language and techniques conform to nothing and no one. Rooted in exploration and a desire to express authenticity makes spontaneity and impulsivity one of his primary tools of creation (and de- struction). Influences from photography, and an affinity for underground subcultures - metal, techno, and street - shine subtly through. Coupled with an exploration of personal experiences related to mental health, addictions, and an upbringing in foster families, his artworks are an amalgamation of styles and influences that offer a unique contemporary perspective from the shadows of Western society. His work often prompts ambiguous, contradictory responses of fascination/repulsion, and identification/alienation, making his work effectively convey themes of dissociation, bestiality, addiction, mental disarray, and existential turmoil.
