David Ikard

Self-taught professional artist for ten years. I consider myself a portraiture artist though I have many interests and they are forever changing. I paint primarily in oil even when I do my mixed media work. I am drawn to portraiture because the human life is so embedded with the seen and unseen. My art tends to reflect this dynamic via texture and style. There are always layers of embedded narratives. You just have to look closely. I am always evolving so expect my style to change up from time to time. It is how I grow as an artist. The struggle is real and also life-changing.

I have a PhD in American Literature with a specialization in African American Studies. I have never studied art in any formal capacity.
