Bożena Burzym-Chawińska was born In Krakow In 1954 and studied painting at te State Higher School of Art and Design in Poznan from 1975 to 1980 graduating with an M.A from the studios of Professor Tadeusz Brzozowski and Jacek Waltos. She lives in Kraków and is actively engaged in painting and drawing.Her work is essentially concerned with human figure, not simply as a genere of traditional theme for the artist, but as the symbol of her fascination with the process of internal transformation and self-creation.While the gender and number of figures in her work changes from painting to paintiong she considers that, '...the crowd being drawn is essentially a result of the transformation that a single person undergoes ... frozen within the frame of a picture, in various stages of his or her journey.' The resulting works have the nature of theatre about them, the figure and its variants become the participants in a drama that is essentially interior and private, even though its manifestation in her paintings becomes public.
