GÖKNİL GÜMÜŞ SUNGURTEKİN Conceptual Essence Narrative Expressionist (CENE) Pioneer Artist & Contemporary Turkish Master Artist Award-Winning Artist • Grand Artist Award Winner • First Turkish Female Naval Artist MA in Painting – Marmara University • Exhibited Internationally • Works in Global Private Collections Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin (b. 1977, Turkey) is an internationally recognized artist known for her emotionally rich and conceptually layered works. She is the founder of Conceptual Essence Narrative Expressionism (CENE) — a distinct artistic philosophy that fuses intuition, memory, emotion, and narrative into an authentic visual language. Her art is more than a visual experience; it is a spiritual and philosophical journey from canvas to soul. Sungurtekin’s creative world is shaped by the influences of German Expressionism, Psychological Art, Symbolism, and Primitivism. Her vivid palette, energetic brushwork, and symbolic layering explore themes such as feminine energy, presence in the moment, transformation, inner awareness, and mysticism. Each work resonates across both personal and universal dimensions, evoking a profound sense of connection. In 2004, she was honored as the first Turkish Female Naval Painter by the Turkish Naval Forces and served as an Honorary Major aboard the TCG Salih Reis Frigate. This extraordinary experience led to the creation of her acclaimed Wardroom and Rope series. In 2023, she was named a World Artist at the Busan International Environmental Art Festival (BIEAF) in South Korea. Her works have been featured in numerous international exhibitions and are part of private collections worldwide. Her visual expression oscillates between abstraction and figuration. A seated figure may serve as a portal to memory, while layered textures embody the dissolution or reconstruction of identity. Her compositions often emerge from an inner momentum — sometimes nostalgic, sometimes rooted in a sudden emotional intensity. Each painting stands as an intuitive narrative, a moment of reflection, and often, an act of surrender and realization. CENE is not just her methodology but her manifesto. In this approach, color becomes frequency, composition flows like energy, and brushstrokes emerge more from intuition than intellect. Each layer carries the imprint of past experiences, the vibration of spirit, and the reflection of the self.
