Trying to put words to why it is I make art is always a bit challenging, and I suppose my reasoning can sound a little cliche because it's true: I've always been possessed by appetite for visual expression. It's an appetite that has grown and evolved with me, and one left unmatched by work I've done in other realms of creative mediums. For years I've processed this appetite in different means of visual output, with varying tools and points of view. Nearly a year ago I started a new series of work and have been excitedly honing my crafts in it since. The techniques I've been using allow, for me, the fluidity of minimalist and abstract ideals to flourish while simultaneously challenging them. I've excluded from my process access to most common painter's tools (brushes, palettes, etc.) . Incorporating innovation into my application of color to canvas/paper has expanded my own way of thinking about art and as a result, each piece in this series is complete unto itself. Unlike much of what I've created before, these works have a definitive start and end point, mostly due to the techniques I've been developing. It could be said that each one of them has a life span; evolves, and it's in this way I aim to create unique pieces, the intricacies of which I invite viewers into hoping to awaken something from within the woven intricacies each person carries around with them. An admittedly ambitious notion, but one that keeps me inspired! It's been a lot of fun discovering how my passion for making is equaled by hearing the diverse findings of my viewers. Ultimately that's one of the most significant parts: the people. Much of the appetite I'm possessed by is finding the perfect visual fit to all of this life around me. I hope that I can provide people with something they can react to, and in their way they'll continue providing me with the fuel to feed this appetite.
