American Impressionistic Plein Air Landscape & Seascape Oil and Watercolor Painter Born in Madison, South Dakota, USA Nancy Amert is a self-taught artist who has won several awards and accolades for her natural artistic abilities, beginning in childhood and continuing through high school. In her early twenties, she worked as a graphic designer for an international home furnishing magazine and advertising house and later became a skilled computer software artist. However, in her thirties, Amert returned to her artistic roots, poetry, and writing, motivated by work-life frustrations and a strong desire for self-expression. Some of her most acclaimed works were created during this challenging period. Amert’s artwork explores the boundaries between various styles—abstraction and figuration, realism and impressionism, and the states of wakefulness and dreams. As a versatile and surprising painter, she has a remarkable ability to create powerful poetic statements through her art. In "Between Two Worlds," for example, the aerial view evokes a sense of detachment, reminiscent of out-of-body experiences often associated with trauma, such as divorce, severe illness, or the loss of a loved one. In her deeply moving piece, "Child of God," she depicts Christ holding a crying child. In her most notable work, "Transformation," she presents a figure that is half human and half angelic, imparting a voyeuristic feeling as if witnessing an intimate and private process of decay and rebirth. Amert’s capacity to transcend standard subject matter and delve into a poetic space encourages her work to pose significant questions about the nature and value of painting in contemporary times.
