My name is Abderrahim BENJABBAR. I was born in Safi and raised in Essaouira. I have loved art and drawing since childhood. Since my birth, I found myself sitting next to my father, who was passionate about drawing. My father was a businessman who owned fishing boats, so most of his subjects were spontaneous scenes of boats accompanied by birds at sunset on the sea.. For these reasons, I found myself an artist from a young age. The second important factor that developed my relationship with drawing was my upbringing in the city of Essaouira, which, as you know, is considered the cradle of visual arts in our country. My small environment was my family, and my larger environment was the city. These factors were an effective motivation for me to become an artist without hesitation. As for my first real exposure to visual art, it was at the hands of the late visual artist Hussein Al-Miloudi, who noticed my talent and my innate desire to become a visual artist. He encouraged me, guided me on the right path, and taught me the meaning of visual art. He encouraged me, for the first time in my artistic career, to participate with him in a group exhibition of fine arts on the occasion of the Essaouira Music Festival 1981/1982. After these two steps, I entered the academic stage, studying art and obtaining my degree as a fine arts teacher. During my artistic career, and before becoming a fine arts teacher, between 1985/1986, I worked as a supervisor for the animation section at the Cinema Center in Rabat. Between 1987/1988, I worked at the General Printing Press of Souss in Agadir as a laboratory artist. I participated in numerous group and individual art exhibitions, and contributed to the creation and production of three-dimensional artworks ready for display. My artwork is measured first and foremost by the quality of the work, after diligence and deep thought, not by numbers. The subject must be chosen, which is a matter of suggestive power. After that comes the time to enlighten the idea and embody it in an artistic painting that combines the appropriate color to highlight the intended theme. I studied fine arts and know most of them, and my only concern was to try to break the phenomenon of imitation and ultimately arrive at my own style. Thanks to my improving health after a long struggle with illness that lasted nearly twenty years, I recently resumed painting in 2021, completing my first work after this period, which I titled "Giant Aura.
