Vena Grebenshikov, a classically trained painter born in 1955, embarked on his professional journey in 1978 following his graduation from the Art & Architecture Institute of Kyrgyzstan. His artistic odyssey has traversed through various mediums, from interior design and architecture to metal sculpting, all amidst the cultural tapestry of his hometown in Siberia, Russia, and across the expanse of Asia. In 2001, Vena's artistic prowess coalesced into a vibrant career in oil painting. Each brushstroke on his canvas springs to life from the photographs and images he encounters in everyday life or during his travels. His oeuvre encapsulates the essence of unique architectures, towering brick edifices, and the melodic resonance of musicians and their instruments—a testament to his passion for music and the performing arts. Vena's distinctive style, akin to the impasto technique, imbues his works with a palpable three-dimensionality. Using palette knives, he applies acrylic and oil pigments thickly onto the canvas, creating a rich texture that dances with vibrant hues. Through this technique, he invites viewers into the kaleidoscope of his surroundings, offering a bright and abstract interpretation of the arts. As the proprietor and resident artist of Vena Gallery & Studio in New Orleans, Vena continues to enchant art enthusiasts with his innovative approach. Drawing upon his deep understanding of art history and the techniques of the masters, Vena has honed his craft, forging a style that is uniquely his own.
