Marie Lenclos is a Paris born painter living and working in South-London since 1995. Lenclos is developing a recognised body of work based on the observation of urban landscapes and buildings close to her home and studio in South London. Lenclos was a documentary video maker for around 12 years. This made her very conscious of the way she looked at the city around her. She got used to 'framing' things all the time, even without a camera. Walking around she would suddenly see something and think: 'this would make a good shot'. Since becoming a painter, she sees something and thinks: 'there is a painting in this'.  Her paintings capture a 'moment of seeing', when lines, light, colours and shapes all fall into a particular order that suddenly makes sense to her. Reality is simplified, and perspectives become her own. Her main focus is colour, which she aims to make vibrant and emotional through gradients and the use of light.
