ABOUT THE ARTWORK

SHIPPING AND RETURNS

This diptych is part of a long series on foliage. I work on the intertwining, the tangle of leaves. I cover them, erase them, superimpose different shades of green. I venture onto the canvas without sketching, letting my hand trace a first shape, and the painting takes shape.

Plants are the central element of my work, particularly foliage and its abundance. I live near forests, which I have been exploring whenever I can for several years now. I like to walk around the same places and notice the changes, the variations in color depending on the time of day, the weather, the season... and let my mind wander. Over time, the work of intertwining and entangling leaves has become a natural part of my process. I cover them, erase them, and superimpose different shades of green. I invent dense, intertwined, sometimes suffocating foliage in which I lose myself, searching for a path—through a line or a color that will take over, bring light, a breakthrough, a new space. It's like going for a long walk in the forest. I explore, I move forward, I get lost, I soak up what is happening on the canvas until the imaginary forest reveals itself to me, sometimes verging on the decorative or ornamental. My wanderings on the canvas are always nourished by my memories of immersion in nature. I invent a landscape between memory and imagination. In parallel with this work, and in response to the meticulousness of these intertwining leaves, I have developed a series devoted to the landscape—meadows, hedgerows, forests in my immediate environment—which I transcribe onto canvas with what remains of these immersions. I try to capture the atmosphere, somewhere between wonder and refuge, a feeling of confinement, dead end or escape; silent landscapes, far from the turmoil of the world.
