I Now live in the Cotswolds after residing in London for the past fifteen years. My student years were spent at the University Of Wales Institute; Cardiff during 1994 - 1997. This was at the height of the clubbing scene, and to sum it up, the hedonistic film 'Human Traffic' was shot in the college bar at Howard Gardens. 'There is no next big thing only a multifaceted ever-changing thing called dance that,at it's core, is humanistic Behind the big business and commercial facade, there is only tribal rhythm'. (Nathan Brett, 1996, 'The Art Of The Club Flyer') My early work reflected an ongoing study concerning dance, movement and club culture. It focused on the early eighties illegal raves, to the nineties indoor club scenes. It captured the essence of this time and emulated the feeling of euphoria that was felt. There was a togetherness during this period; a scene! These paintings were created by distorting the interiors of clubs and augmenting them to create a background for the moving figure. The female form was partially painted to convey the energy expressed through dance. 'Dancing is about escapism; being free, and in tune with your emotions, whilst feeling a sense of rhythm.It is an individual feeling, but at the same time you feel a sense of togetherness. We can all do it; it's sexy and makes you feel alive'. Goethe's colour theory has played an important role in creating my earlier work. One particular aspect of Goethe's theory that interested me was that all the senses are linked, touch, smell, taste, hearing and sight. An example of this is how a yellow painting could be classed as a high pitch musical note, whilst having a sour taste. By putting this into practice it helped me to create a musical element that was needed to convey movement and dance. Max Ernst, Bret Whitley and The Impressionists painters are to list a few of my other influences; Life and living on the other hand are my greatest inspirations. I believe in escaping the constraints of modern life and have extensively travelled the world. My latest venture was visiting Indonesia, Nepal, The Andaman Islands, India and Malaysia for a year with my husband and three year old daughter. This has lead to a new body of work that focuses on capturing light in vast landscapes. "Painting is an argument between what it looks like and what it means".
