Sonia Chivarar is a multidisciplinary artist working across acrylic and oil painting, sculpture, and mixed media — often incorporating papier-mâché on unconventional surfaces such as glass, wood, and found objects. Her work is an exploration of dualities: light and darkness, the ancient and the modern, geometry and chaos. With a journey in art spanning over three decades, Sonia’s creative roots trace back to Eastern Europe. Born in Transylvania, she grew up in the shadows of Dracula’s Castle, a setting that left an indelible mark on her artistic imagination. The mystical atmosphere of her homeland, rich in folklore and layered with cultural symbolism, continues to influence her work in subtle yet powerful ways. Her art reflects a dynamic visual language, defined by bold contrasts, tribal symbolism, and primitive-inspired color palettes. Sonia’s work often features asymmetry, tactile surfaces, and sculptural forms that challenge perception and engage the viewer on both intellectual and emotional levels. Never one to stay within fixed boundaries, Sonia constantly experiments — one day immersing herself in vibrant, luminous hues, and the next diving into shadowy, introspective tones. From expressive Viking figures to cryptic tribal faces, her creations are both raw and refined, ritualistic yet contemporary. Each piece is a journey: a reflection of cultural hybridity, personal myth, and fearless artistic exploration.
