John Acurso

Since the early 1980's, John Acurso has produced a complex body of artistic work that moves fluidly between his varying interests and concerns. His early interests developed around the tradition of the Equivalent and how a photograph can create a metaphor for, or give insight into, some internal human condition. And while that remains an important aspect of his work, more recent work has also explored socio-political and socioeconomic considerations and issues of connection and disconnect. Depending on the project and desired effect, he can create either richly, toned black and white imagery or shift seamlessly to a beautiful and lush color palette.

His fine art photography has been exhibited in several museums and is included in many private and public collections across the US, including that of the Portland Art Museum. In addition to his fine art, John has also created compelling images for major commercial clients since 1990. His award winning work has been published nationally and internationally for clients such as Nike, Microsoft, Zurich Financial, Amtrak, Amazon and Miller Brewing. It has also illustrated feature articles in several magazines including Forbes ASAP, The Atlantic and Teen People.
