A boy was building sand castles at dusk as we were having our massage by the beach at El Nido, Palawan. I see him concentrating on his work. This was the inspiration for the artwork. I hope to share his focus and determination in expressing his imagination.

Dotty is a Filipina artist based in Davao, Philippines. Her journey as an artist started with ballpoint pen as her medium of choice. She is now working with archival pens, pencils, and oil paints in her artworks. Working with pens and pencils allows her a certain degree of precision while exploring the fluidity of movement and carefree strokes to create a distinct contrast in her artworks. Her oil paintings strives to create a contrasting palette strokes of paint with muted and soft brush strokes. She draws inspiration from what she sees around her and from her travels to various parts of the world. She likes to capture movement and a nice play of light and shadows in expressing mood in her artworks. ARTIST STATEMENT Art speaks what words cannot express I am a lifelong learner of the arts. While my artistic journey started later in life, I’ve always known and acknowledged my creative streak all throughout my life. I’ve been told I have a gift. I am now ready to unwrap this gift and share it with you. My drawings and paintings are expressions of my mood and emotions. When words escape me, I communicate thru my colors, strokes and movement of my artworks. I find inspiration from the everyday things. I am inspired by the common and familiar yet neglected and often ignored objects, expressions and subjects that are usually drowned in the daily hustle and bustle of city life. If you feel an emotion looking at my drawings and paintings, then I have communicated enough.
