Charmaine Shively is a cold wax artist living in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Humboldt State University with a minor in art. It was there she learned about encaustic painting which utilizes heat and wax mixed with oil paint. No longer using heat her work is considered cold wax painting. The absence of heat allows the several layers of pearlescent pigments to add a lustrous effect that changes depending on how the light hits them. Growing up in the California beach town of Ventura the ocean made an early impact on Charmaine. Water, abalone shells, and sunsets are her inspiration. She takes what fascinates her most and fuses them together to create abstract seascapes intended to help you relax and feel more peaceful. Charmaine has exhibited her work around the Pacific NW where several collectors have multiple original paintings including a winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley. She also has work in private collections in Texas, California, Colorado, Ohio, Nevada, and New Hampshire. In her free time she loves camping surrounded by lush forests and clear water ideal for swimming and chilling on her floatie.
