The artwork of Ivan Llorens has flown elusively to traditional formats and categories for more than two decades. Iván Llorens painting belongs to the school of abandonment to the essence of things. That is, an open choice to know or, if allowed, to choose not to choose any other thing but to accept what is given by the force of what is already alive, but buried. Devout images to irrationalism which contradict irrationality in a way. A free and crude proposal of what occurs by dubious reasons. Dolphins eat pigs. Not entirely at random, but errors against the unbearable weight from the higher echeleons. Allegories of Emotion. Chess Harmonies, his last project, connects the abstraction of his paintings to a personal interest in chess and the mental structures associated to this game. These paintings are inspired by the interaction of light and space in the architecture of chess. Paintings that are reflections on the mental process of thought patterns, system dynamics and the emotion of colour. Like a map of a maze. A code characterized by the accumulation and fragmentation, a poetic sense of form, and the colour calling for its spirituality. Most of his work is depicted using traditional means and techniques; such as oil, acrylic, watercolor and dry pigment applied in layers. The iteration of geometry and a search for non-hierarchical compositions with the dynamic dualism. The dualism of background and foreground, cosmos and microcosm in, like for instance, a mandala that gives the painting a fundamental contemplative character. From emotion to reason. From absolute freedom to the limits of space. A bridge to reality. From chaos to order. Improvisation versus accuracy. Intuition’s Logic.
