Kaitlin works in acrylics on canvas, creating dramatic abstract paintings inspired by nature. After completing her B.A. in Visual Arts from The University of Western Ontario, Kaitlin obtained her art teaching degree from the University of Wollongong in NSW, Australia. Kaitlin’s artistic practice focuses on teasing out the beauty and raw emotion of each inspiration, drawing on rhythms and unique combinations of colour gathered through travel in Africa, India, Australia and Indonesia. -------ARTIST STATEMENT------- There is always an inspiration – a landscape, pattern, or combination of colours – hastily transferred onto the canvas in some raw form. With the structure there, the original inspiration is immediately abandoned, sloughed off, for the realization of it is always imperfect and the inspiration becomes constraining as the work struggles to reveal itself. Mood and moment lead my hand through the canvas, stacking colour in layers – sometimes thick and solid, sometimes thin and sheer. The work changes and the process continues until I come to a place of satisfaction, presented with a unique composition of resonating colours.
