The piece is an abstract painting done in encaustic medium, charcoal, and orange tempera. Encaustic is an ancient way of painting with beeswax and dahmar to harden the wax when fused with heat. The tempera and charcoal were dropped into the hot wax and then spread with a heat torch.

My name is Teresa Foster and I was born in a small West Texas farming community. My family moved to Ft. Worth in order to make a living as many families did during the 50's. I currently live in Arlington Tx. I recently retired from a 26 year career as an art teacher in public schools. I knew I was an artist when my first grade teacher gave me extra time on the easel. Being a teacher made me a better artist and being an artist made me a better teacher. At my retirement celebration I spoke to my fellow teachers and students about how I gladly shared my thoughts, my ideas, and techniques to my students and that it was now time to begin the process of devoting my own ideas to my own work. I celebrated the beginning of my new life by having a show with a former student. What could be better... "two artists having a show".
