Rachel Yane: Born: 1952, Tel Aviv Lives and works in Montreal, Canada. Education: MA , Art Education, Concordia U. Montreal, 1979 BFA, Concordia U, Montreal, 1977 Saidye Bronfman School of Art, Montreal, 1992 About the artist Rachel Yane is a dynamic artist who is well versed in many forms of expression. While painting and sculpting have always been her passion, Yane also founded the first Hebrew theatre in Montreal with English supertitles. She directed, produced and acted in several plays, some of which she wrote herself. In 2005, while running her own design business (established in 1994), Ikea selected her as one of 39 worldwide designers for a program called "Space for Living". Each designer was asked to redesign a piece of furniture. The interview on her piece later appeared on national TV. After selling her business in 2007, she devoted her time to sculpting with metal and glass as her medium. Later, painting became a stronger focus and now her work can be found in several private and corporate collections in Canada, the USA and Israel. Yane's current exhibition "Constructed Landscapes", featuring bridges and highway interchanges, is a celebration of human achievement. "A bridge overcomes an obstacle and connects one place to another. It unites the divide with tremendous power," she says. The energy and great beauty rendered by these architectural masterpieces create exhilarating scenes. The romantic undercurrent of journey, change, and travel elicited by these constructed landscapes, inspire feelings of awe in Yane, which she hopes to share with her viewers.
