Kevin Scalzo (b. Winnipeg, Canada 1969) Born in Canada, my family immigrated to the US when I was very young, and settled in California. In 1987 I enrolled in the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, but soon left after feeling I was not learning what I had hoped to. After briefly studying at Cornish College of Art in the early nineties, I have continued my artistic explorations largely on my own, and now consider myself to be mostly self taught. Settling permanently in New York, my work has been shown in galleries around the country, and the world. I am mainly known for my abstract color saturated paintings, sometimes integrating cartoon elements. I am influenced by painters Hans Hoffmann, Julie Mehretu, Philip Guston, Ken Kelly, Stuart Davis and Jean Dubuffet. My work has been shown in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Tokyo, Seattle, Portland, Or. and New York City. I currently live and work in NY with my wife and daughter, and our dog Rosie.
