Dean Lee Uhlinger (1954- ) Dean was trained in the school of experience, beginning with his father's camera at the age of thirteen. Growing up in a Southern California beach town (Carlsbad), Dean began shooting seascapes. He also had a strong affinity for desert southwest landscapes, dating back to his pre-teen years watching western movies and TV shows, where the back drops were places like Monument Valley and the Alabama Hills of the Eastern Sierras. Dean began taking trips to the local desert (Borrego) and then excursions to the Mojave and Sonoran Desert of Arizona soon followed. Field trips to the Colorado Plateau and high desert areas of Utah and New Mexico were planned and realized. Dean continues to shoot western landscapes and other subjects that catch his artist's eye. In the last decade, he began creating dynamic computer photo/art via his Mac. Recently, Dean began work on a second photography book, "Precious Waters, River of Life", an photo essay on rivers of the west and their vital importance to the region. Dean has had gallery shows in California and Oregon, also posting his work in internet galleries. *Published: 1994 "Desert Light" (Chronicle Books). *Contributing Photographer: Corbis Inc.
