My name is Matteo Cerri, I’m a multidisciplinary artist and Graphic Designer. My design work to date has predominantly been in graphics, but my portfolio includes some work as an illustrator. I’m passionate about Primitive and contemporary art. I have had a lot of fun exploring how these two areas can be overlapped. For me, there is a real sweet spot in working with indigenous materials and contemporary practices and principles. Music is a passion of mine and a powerful influence during the creative process. It feeds my inspiration, it lets me explore new ideas and it helps further evolve these ideas into the finished article. I have raised in Brugherio a town close to Milan. My house was busy, lots of visitors, and someone in the house always had a creative project they were working on. My Father was a Graphic Designer and antique collector and thanks to him, I started drawing and developing an artistic sense from a young age. Besides Edinburgh and Italy, I’ve spent time in London and Australia, I’ve always liked masks and Primitive art. Sometimes I wonder if the time traveling and working in Australia has led to indigenous culture having a greater significance in my work as a theme.
