Marie Svan Olsen

Born in Denmark 1974

Im a 33 years old artist living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark.
I finished my education at Collage of Design Education in 2002, and ever since Ive been working in my studio in Copenhagen.
Primarily I paint in oil on canvas but in periods Ive been working with enamel on steel both in my studio and at Sprakareds Emaljverk near Gothenborg in Sweden. Recently Ive become a member of the grafic workshop at Kirsten Kjaers Museum in Northern Jutland, DK, where I work with grafic monoprints.

During the last year Ive had several exhibitions around Denmark; soloexhibitions at Kirsten Kjaers Museum and Galleri Arleth, and a travelling exhibition with a group of four figurative painters/photographers in Kulturspinderiet, Langes Magasin, Gammelgaard and Pakhuset.
For two years I have been a visiting teacher at Art School of Greenland and I do portrait-commissions for companies and private persons.

In my paintings I focus on adding the story of the person into the portrait. The story can be my impression and interpretation of the model and what catches me about this specific person. In this case my interpretation of the persons expression is more important than the actual similarity.
