Born in Madrid and based in Alicante, Almudena Torró is a Spanish sculptor working with metal mesh. Her practice began with a search for the expressiveness of the void, which led her to experiment with metal mesh until it became her sculptural material. Her work centers on the space-light relationship: light passes through the material, while the shadows it projects become changing compositional elements in the surrounding space. The viewer’s position alters the perception of form, void and shadow. Her current practice develops through two series: “In Transit” and “Re-encounter.” The “In Transit” series marks a stage in which Torró questions and redefines her sculptural language through movement, space, projected shadows and void. The “Re-encounter” series unfolds through three lines: “Reflection,” “Ethereal,” and “Renaissance.” In “Reflection,” mirror surfaces bring the viewer and the surrounding space into the work. In “Ethereal,” three-dimensional forms invite multiple viewpoints, each revealing a different relationship between curve, void and light. In “Renaissance,” metal mesh is burned as part of the sculptural process, leaving visible traces of transformation. Torró holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Miguel Hernández University and a Master’s Degree in Art and Antiques Appraisal from the University of Alcalá. She was a finalist in the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024 and received a Certificate of Artistic Achievement at the Luxembourg Art Prize 2025. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, London and Copenhagen and has been included in Saatchi Art curated collections including Frieze Seoul 2025, Curator's Choice: Best of Fall, and Best of 2024: Sculpture. She was also featured in Aesthetica Magazine’s Artists’ Directory, Issue 128.
