Riyaz Pocketwala

I am a self-taught artist and photographer who has only in the last few years really had the time to explore drawing and the camera. I am compelled to draw as I suppose I should be, and have developed what I believe is a fairly unusual style with use of a combination of ink and pencil, using design and pattern to create an image. These drawings are a mindscapes, my soul on paper. Half way through 2010 I decide to climb a hill that had forever daunted me, realism. I had never attempted it from lack of confidence in my ability to successfully draw a real human face, or anything else real. I think that I have now gained the confidence to attain a confluence of the two styles and see what results.
Photography has always been something I wanted to try, and had little glimpses along the way until I traveled through India for a year with a video camera that took 1.3mp stills. The things I learned by watching David Wallace, an Australian photographer I met in Kathmandu, changed the way I looked at things and when I purchased a DSLR in 2008, I started to have fun with a camera.
