Janet Nelson-Moore

Janet Nelson-Moore is a contemporary painter working in acrylics and mixed-media. She produces collage in abstract themes that evoke powerful spiritual and emotional responses. Schooled in the postmodern era of the 1970s, Nelson-Moore’s abstract expressionism, pop and op-art reflects a common theme: the power of community. She uses symbolism, such as grouping two or three figures together, to convey the concept that we are all in this together. Included in each painting is an image of Sammy, the family dog.

After graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas with a major in painting and drawing, Janet began to focus on abstract painting, mixed media, and collage. As a producing contemporary painter and artist, using assorted media and processes, she found that abstract themes allowed for a free flow of emotion and spirituality to develop in her work. Building upon the humanitarian theme, a surreal quality unfolds on the canvas, in which mystery transcends reality through the use of exaggeration, i.e., the luminous figures and unusual spatial relationships.
