Kartini Thomas

Kartini Thomas is an American artist based in France. Her prior work as a biologist greatly influences her sculptures and drawings, which exist on the overlap between coral reef and cartoon, fascination and disgust. They often resemble petri dish colonies of fun-loving, colorful bacteria.
The worlds that she creates are opulent and teeming with life; visiting them, we experience the breathless pleasure of the mad scientist, almost expecting to see movement, evolution.
