Laura Fong holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University.
She is an artist and writer in New York.
She is interested in the intersections of art history, emerging technologies such as computers, digital photograhy, mobile phones, software and the internet. As a child, her education included visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and MoMA.
Her art is preoccupied by issues of appropriation, manipulating found images via computer software. Concurrently, she is well versed in the canon of past historical precedents referencing the greats such as Monet, Renoir, Steiglitz and Warhol.
For her "After Steiglitz" series, she began with photographs by Alfred Steiglitz, then digitally manipulated them to create new photographs. Her work is inspired by artists such as Richard Prince, and Sherrie Levine. Her work calls into question issues of what belongs in the public domain, the digital commons, as well as what is in our collective memory art historically, and our recognition of figures, nature, as well as the urban landscape.
