Dunes & Valleys series of abstract drawings is an exploration of solitude, inspired by the graphic dunes and valleys on Mars, where time seems to be standing still. Beautiful surfaces, different in their patterns and colors, radiate tranquility. Introverted, ice-cold and layered.

Karina Salfeld is a Stuttgart area based artist who creates abstract drawings using ink on paper and mixed media. Her compositions are a depiction of the layered and enigmatic landscapes with the central theme of solitude. Being largely influenced by Lucian Freud's drawings on paper, as well as Egon Schiele and Wol's artworks, Karina pushes fear aside and follows her passion in self-exploration and growth. She communicates through her art what can't be said in words — pain and liberation that comes with self-discovery. Karina’s favorite quote by David Bowie summarizes her courageous venture into art and complex relationship with her masterpieces. “If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
