ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The old sailing ship knows that it will no longer sail the seas, nor feel the breeze or the harsh rigors of storms on its fragile structure. However, it clings to life and fights desperately not to die. Its tired sails cover it like a warm cloak, foreshadowing the end that slowly approaches. But the vessel doesn't think about that; it will fight until the last moment while the sea, seductively, invades it. Its old timbers yield and no longer allow it to float. Carlos Orrea is a painter born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1948, to Spanish parents. He currently lives in Bogotá, Colombia. He studied at the Panamerican School of Art in Buenos Aires and began exhibiting his work in 1968. Orrea's paintings are part of the modernist movements that follow futurism, where symbolism is always present. His paintings have both narrative and expressive value, transforming reality into a dreamlike vision in a masterful way and inducing the viewer to read the untold story that resonates on the canvas.
