Graduated in Fine arts from the University of the Basque Country (EHU), Israel Melero widened his artistic training with the accomplishment of a Master’s degree in Artistic Production at Valencia University. He also obtained a scholarship in London through the Leonardo da Vinci European programe. With the painting collection “Grapes”, Mr Melero develops a meticulous and completely elaborated language, in which the artist is interested in the process bound to the experience, painting just for painting. After a period of research, Mr Melero developed a completely effective technique, based on the production of layers, working the piece from behind. He works on several paintings simultaneously, using the different drying times of the oil in order to not mix certain colours that must remain apart. Mr Melero bases his work on photographs taken by himself. Having a visual reference for composition, lighting and colour. Taking advantage of the elements of the photography, like the softness of the focus or the vision provided by macro lenses across the painting. The result, completely realistic pieces that go deeply into the beauty of nature, where Mr. Melero approaches the different varieties of grapes, times of ripening and its aspect according to the different conditions of light. A meticulous and precious treatment of the light and the colour can be appreciated in Mr. Melero’s pieces. Gathering the education of hyperrealism but filtering this legacy through intimate optics, as a result giving us a very personal piece in which, according to the artist “The painting becomes an escape mechanism, an experience where I can return to nature, to the land, with minimal elements, to the original representation”.
