The Rest Area of Pinacoteca di Brera Print

This work was inspired by my trip to Milan at the end of 2018. At the end of the tour of the Pinacoteca di Brera, passing by the rest area leading to the exit, I saw the elderly man in the painting sitting at a distance reading. Warm light from the upper left spread through the air, caressing the mottled marks on the wall and the wrinkles on his face. The hanging white spheres and the curves of the tabletop enlivened the square structure made up of lots of straight lines. The famous paintings inside the window and the exhibition brochures outside the window were pasted together, blurring the boundaries between the interior and exterior spaces. The cool and warm color blocks are distinct in shape and echo each other in subtle variations in hue. The light, the figure and the color were blended into one, serene and quaint. The elderly man was immersed in his own world and enjoyed himself. He was just like the old city, permeated with the elegance precipitated over the years.
