About The Artwork
Although I respond to contemporary painters more than impressionists, Vincent Van Gogh's paintings have always defined what painting means to me. I think this is because I've been aware of them my entire life. And the Art Institute of Chicago has many of his important canvases. So I've seen his brush strokes, his color, his textures in person many times. A little of Van Gogh has crept into this canvas. Like all my work, the painting has layers of materials and contrasting shapes which I apply over time to create depth on the canvas. (Should we expand and/or personalize this?) If you're considering prints, this piece has been photographed by a highly respected fine art photographer using a 100MG Hasselblad camera. The resulting image reproduction is very detailed and can handle dramatic enlargement.
