“Painting is my second wanderlust.. breaking me free to realms where my footsteps dare not tread.” Yen is an impressionist painter of landscapes, scenes, inspired by travels, dreams, with strong colours, organic forms and leanings towards surrealism and abstractism. With a child like eye, she explores the world with her art journey going in hand in hand and it finally brought her home full circle in recent years, with her current series My Joo Chiat Corner depictiing the nooks and corners around her studio gallery in the heritage street. Largely self-taught, she gained much from attending art workshops and interaction with experienced art practitioners, from studying art history and the journey of masters, learning from their works and techniques. Increasingly, it is everyday life that is the teacher - places, people, things that move her into translating those feelings on canvas - especially in the world now where each day and its littlest things are the essence of life itself to be treasured.
