Acrylic on Maple 48" x 32" I have been exploring monochromatic and more subtle tones in my works. The results in "Regeneration" have been a powerful aesthetic that promotes contemplation, curiosity and more focus on the textural and movement components in the work. This piece is distinct in its fractures or cracks, where additional subtle shifts in color are revealed, leaving one to wonder what lies underneath. Despite looking white and grey, the colors used in this piece are navy, green, red and white, which you can see more prominent relics of in the bottom-right portion of the piece. I enjoy including these unexpected nods to the initial colors in a piece as a visual treasure and additional source of wonder. This is a statement piece that works well in filtered light, natural light (but not direct sunlight), at entryways and in conversational areas in a residence or business. See additional photos for a closer look at the texture of this piece and its subtle undertones. In my interdisciplinary practice, I delve into the complexities of labor, luxury, and materiality, using my autonomous and chosen labor as a means of expressing care and elevating the luxury of materials, subjects, and concepts. I often incorporate personal artifacts and perspectives of underrepresented groups to bring attention to these perspectives in public spaces and challenge traditional notions of luxury. Through abstraction and materialization of information, I create a nuanced exploration of the subtext and transparency of these themes, layering them together in my growing body of work to challenge the traditional understanding of labor, materiality and luxury. My artistic process is driven by the desire to understand and challenge the way we perceive these concepts and how they relate to one another.
