Gabriele Prill's paintings tell stories out of life in lovable details, often with fine irony, transporting moods and describing situations. Since the paintings are just a moment out of the story it is very important to the artist that the viewer puts his own fantasy into the beginning and end of the story. "I do not want to restrict people to my views, taking their chance to build multiple stories on their own. The personal feeling for a painting is important. Only this way one can learn to love it", says the painter who has a special love for colorful signs and glowing neon advertisement. A specialty are the night paintings, which are very difficult to do in watercolor. Gabriele compares her style to the so called "Scene Painting" movement established in the 1920's in the West coast of America. El Lechero, the “Milkman” Market, is on Beverly Boulevard, not far from North Kingsley Drive, where I lived for a long time. Here runs the border between Central America and Korea. For the first time visitor it will probably not be noticeable. Only if one reads or tries to read the advertisements. The Spanish is still a little understandable, the Korean characters look simply beautiful to me. A Mexican supermarket used to be at the corner where Beverly Boulevard crosses with North Kingsley Drive. Later, when it became Korean, it was never without it's share of surprises. I had lived there in a small treehouse for nearly 8 years at my nice landlord Jeff's place. The area is simply ideal. Ten minutes to Hollywood, ten minutes to Downtown and most friends pretty close by.
