Dichroic Fields Diptych: two individual editions, each comprised of expressive, time lapse exposures of the New York underground. Painterly, Abstract Expressionist gestures emerge from photographic images registered within the station's grand echoes. Rothko's color fields may not be out of place, as industrial platforms become secular chapels. 42nd Street / Times Square, and 59th Street / Columbus Circle, Manhattan, 2019. *Note: this diptych is created as two separate prints. Main image above provided as a single-sheet example only. Individual print images may be fully displayed by clicking on respective thumbnail. Each of two prints measure 26" x 39" paper size -- suitable for framing and arranging to taste. A single print version including both images may be produced upon request. Diptych Limited Edition of 5 + 1 A/P and 1 P/P (each Limited Edition set includes two prints). Printed exclusively for the artist by Brooklyn Editions' Master Printmaker, New York City. Hahnemühle Photo Rag Bright White 310 gsm, with Hahnemühle Certificate of Authenticity. Archival pigment inks printed with Epson P20000. *Dichroic Fields is also now available in a Metal Edition, 24" W x 36" H, printed upon a single surface of aluminum infused with inks: https://www.saatchiart.com/print/Photography-Dichroic-Fields-Diptych-Edition-Metal/963224/10676163/view

PRÉCIS + PROCESS + PAST-PRESENT: PRÉCIS: Light continuously shifts and suffuses. Never quite known, light occasions fresh perspectives for the attentive eye. Photography for me inhabits a space somewhere between poetry and motion picture film, my primary areas of advanced training. INSPIRATION: As many of my recent photos were taken in New York, I sometimes reflect upon the wisdom of gifted New York photographer, Saul Leiter. Leiter suggests, "there are things that are out in the open, and there are things that are hidden, and life has more to do, the real world has to do, with the things that are hidden. You think?" I offer my recent work in a spirit of discovery, a search for "the things that are hidden." PRINTMAKING PROCESS: Signature editions printed exclusively for the artist by Brooklyn Editions' Master Printmaker, New York City. PAST-PRESENT: I grew up as an artist, and gradually branched into other media. Crossing boundaries and investigating form naturally extend my creative and writerly output. Earlier, I worked on aesthetics with late philosopher Jean-François Lyotard. Temporal and phase transitions -- chemical, Kantian, disjunctive -- and a delight in the process of naming inform and inflect my work.
