About The Artwork

This work, part of a series, is the consolidation of the study of the technique created by the artist, called "grappage", which allows ordering the different elements while preserving their qualities as much as possible. The Grappage has given me the freedom to assume the volume through another perspective, one more open from my plastic needs, respecting the characteristics that favor the composition that I want to build. With the Grappage, both the very essence of the elements, as well as my will to create, not only are less limited, but also reach other levels. People should perceive harmony despite not finding a recognizable subject.

“I am the tool through which art expresses its need to exist” With this phrase Jimena Lucas defines her mimesis with the concept of artistic creation. Jimena Lucas, born in Uruguay in 1979, immersed herself in the artistic world of Torres García at the hands of her disciple Ricardo Sánchez, with whom she studied from 1995 to the year 2000 and who would have a decisive influence on the concept that the artist would develop around the definition of the creative process. The conception of "Constructive Universalism" by Torres García, as absolute art and current of thought captivates the artist. The organization of geometric shapes on a mystical idea of proportion and order, which includes numerous universal symbols, deeply influences her, especially in the mathematical and geometric concept of the organization of the Universe. The order of the cosmos governed by universal reason is responsible not for an art form, but for absolute and universal art. This concept of artistic creation has a powerful influence on the sense of the process that Jimena Lucas follows in her future as an artistic creator. Outside of exclusively metaphysical conceptions, Lucas, in her constant evolution, theorizes about what art is and defines the creative process in three phases that he calls TRANS: Transgression, Transition and Transformation. The macrocosmic vision of Torres García becomes a microcosmic vision in the case of Jimena Lucas where the artist opens a channel through which her internal world is projected onto the object to which she must assign a plastic meaning. The artist's evolution has been constant and his multidisciplinary attitude leads her to investigate all techniques such as assembly, collage, sculpture, installations, etc. The dynamism that she shows in her works follows a mathematical and geometric logic where not only a balance between the parts is produced, but also gives a sensation of harmonic movement that makes the works seem alive. The three-dimensionality of her pictorial works brings us closer to high relief, giving a sensation of underlying reality that is born in our objective reality.
