About The Artwork

This assemblage was created while living in Mexico from found objects, is also a self portrait. An old dolls dress rescued from the middle of the road which reminded me of an abandoned soul became the basis for Cinderella put together with toy kitchen utensils and household objects. The box itself is decorated with "decoupage" from pages of the story itself. Decoupage was a popular craft in the Victorian era which is also the time that the fairytale became popular. My own humour has been added to this adaptation of Cinderella by including a Scarab Beetle instead of a mouse that would become the horseman of the golden coach to take me to the ball! The box itself has a glass front to protect the artwork and is ready to hang with fixings on the back (the glass is securely held in by drinks can openers as shown on the image, this was intentionally designed to be a functional part of the piece).

I paint expressionist style portraits of musicians from life using rapid brushwork to express the movement and emotion of the music. Having previously studied and worked in the animation industry in London, I decided to make a break and moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in 2004, where captivated by the light and surrealist culture, I decided to remain for 7 years, living and working amongst the vibrant and respected artistic community which played a pivotal influence in my work. I began painting and drawing street musicians at this time in Mexico which culminated in several exhibitions. Since returning back to my hometown London in 2011, I have continued to work on this theme, and portrait painting, and am currently working on a new series of expressionist paintings of objects. I mainly paint from life, as I believe that this is the only way to to genuinely capture the small nuances of expression which brings real energy and life into the work. www.beverleyisaacs.com http://www.youtube.co/watch?v=kFzRAiZsztI
