This collage is inspired by Ambrosius Bosschaerts flower still life that he painted in 1614 on a copper plate. In the 17th century flower still lifes were an important genre and the painters' aim was it, to capture beauty combined with a certain message. A pink carnation, a white rose, and a yellow tulip with red stripes lie in front of a basket with flowers, that would not bloom together: roses, forget-me-nots, lilies-of-the-valley, a cyclamen, a violet, a hyacinth, and tulips. Insects, short-lived like flowers, remind of the brevity of life and the transience of its beauty. A rising interest in botany and a passion for flowers led to an increase in painted floral still lifes at the end of the 1500s in the Netherlands and Germany. Bosschaert was the first great Dutch specialist in fruit and flower painting and the head of a family of artists. He established a tradition that influenced an entire generation of fruit and flower painters in the Netherlands. Todays world shows some similarities to the baroque thinking. Beauty has become such an important theme in our world, however the baroque aspect of "memento mori" - "remember death" is much less present - not necessarily to the good ... At the same time, in the face of natural catastrophes, illnesses and war, many experience uncertainty and rather than finding comfort in the beauty of nature they feel as if their world was falling apart and they were left with the pieces. By sowing a collage of a traditional motive I want to meet this feeling of fragmentation with a little extra stability in an attempt to make it stick together after all. The result is different from the original that it used to be and more than one option would have been possible in the creative process. I chose one option and sown to the canvas, that shall be the new reality we will have to get used to. The pieces are all canvas painted with oils or acrylics. The painting is varnished and mounted on a frame.

Every painting I paint leaves me with a strong impression. I dream of the subject, fall in love with it and carry it around with me at least during the time of creation. I hope to pass on some of the impact a subject made on me.
