Sold; This current body of work evolved from a continued interest in the empowerment of ordinary space through rituals, such as dance to create ‘transformed space’ or sacred space. The works in this exhibition investigate the tradition of sutra, a Sanskrit term literally meaning ‘a thread’, or a highly condensed aphoristic method of literary expression. The continued study and contemplation of sutras are used in some cultures as a way of empowering the practitioner, by providing a transformative opportunity. These pieces are visual explorations of the concept of empowering ordinary or natural objects and spaces. They explore the movement or underlying energies in nature that unify the natural world (prana) as they resonate through our affinity with colour, form, texture and mood.

Meredith Russell (B.A. Fine Art., M.A. Visual Art, Adv.Dip. Live Design) Meredith is a visual artist working, teaching and exhibiting in a variety of media in visual and performing arts. During this time, she has progressively explored the dynamic energy associated with movement of the human form in space, and this has led to a fascination and passion for modern dance as a focal point for visual expression. This relationship with dance and performance has enabled her to work with choreographers, musicians and artists in a collaborative working environment, integrating collective skills into meaningful performances. Her previous work utilised her research in traditional Indian dance theories of movement and space as they apply to "˜place-making' in post-modern dance. This led to her role of artistic director for the community event "˜Circling the Square' enabling her to combine her passion for visual and performing arts. Recently, she completed studies for an "˜Advanced Diploma in Live Design for Theatre and Event', giving her the opportunity to further explore the role of theatre and art practice, and continues to integrate both disciplines into her work.
