This piece is inspired by the flame coral tree which was in bloom during my time in Mexico City in the spring of 2021. The tree only blooms at the very end of the dry season. Looking up into the tree canopy, it appears as if little flames are resting on black gnarled branches. Las Flores son Llamas en mis Ojos is a fiber-based collage. It was created during my time at Casa Lu, an artist residency in Mexico City. It is inspired by the blooms of the flame coral tree in Parque Hundido,CDMX. an oil pastel drawn on site was used as a map to create this piece. Vibrant fiber-based collage created using reclaimed material. Hand sewn details Archival adhesive used, mounted on canvas Come framed in natural wood, shadow box style with piece float mounted Framed dimensions 19.25" x 16" x 1.75" Ready to hang signed on back and back of frame.

Anastasia Zielinski (b. 1983 Washington D.C.) is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus in oil painting, mixed-media collage, and installation art. Bright and bold with an emphasis on texture, her art is a celebration of the natural world and the benefits gained from time spent in nature. Anastasia’s multi-layered work is characterized by an abundance of visual information that verges on excess yet is appropriate to the subject. She credits the memory of her mother’s overflowing sewing cabinet for the reoccurring and expansive use of fabric and sewing notions within her work, both as material and inspiration for mark-making. With a BFA from Pratt Institute (2005 Brooklyn, NY) Anastasia’s foundation in traditional oil painting has informed how she approaches other mediums. Ms. Zielinski has shown her work nationally and internationally and has created site-specific installations for INSCAPE arts, Shunpike’s Storefront Seattle, Spaceworks Tacoma, and CLAVO. She currently splits her time between Mexico City and the Pacific Northwest.
