This mixed-media work is one of a series of works where I explore the relationship between the "everyday" and space. I hope to highlight the idea that the “everyday” can overwhelm. Endless forms of media allow us to see everything, even the most banal moments, happening at all times to all people in all spaces, if only we had all the time in the world to view it. With my work, I want to explore the awareness we have, via social and other forms of media, of the simultaneity of so many people’s everyday lives. I use so many different materials and media to reinforce this overwhelming feeling amidst the everyday - polymer clay forms organic frames around collage-paintings made from printed paper, marker drawings, watercolor, and acrylic painting - all mounted on a wood panel. The scene in this small work is a shrine to domestic life - a single vase on a coffee table in a grey room. But the patterns, pops of color, and irregular, hand-made frame create a frenetic energy.

Becky Bailey lives and works out of Ithaca, NY. Her interdisciplinary work blends painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, and design. With a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a background in textile design, her art practice and design work often bleed into one another. Her mixed-media approach results in vivid, dream-like scenes that suggest a mythic reframing of current circumstances. Through an often fantastical lens, the work explores daily struggles, shared experiences, and solidarity between individuals. Becky has completed residencies at The Studios at MASS MoCA as well as ChaShaMa’s ChaNorth artist residency, and has shown work in exhibitions across the U.S., including New York, Philadelphia, Nebraska, and Massachusetts.
